DRO PROS 2M & 3M Basic and Special Functions Explained:

 

Clear Zero - Sets the current position to zero. Allows the operator to specify any desired point as the "0" reference point.

Inch/Metric Display Conversion - Allows the operator to choose between inch and metric display.

Direct Entry Allows operator to manually input desired dimension / coordinate.

Result Transfer A point value computed from the calculator feature can be entered and found.

ABS/INC (Absolute / Incremental) Allows the operator to switch between absolute and incremental display. 'Absolute' display references the work piece zero coordinate you designate. You may choose the absolute center point of your workpiece or perhaps a corner of your workpiece, the decision is yours. Incremental display references any arbitrary coordinate/position without losing your designated zero point. For example, to locate a point exactly in the middle of your workpiece you would most likely use 'absolute' display to locate the point. To locate points exactly .78 distant from an arbitrary point somewhere in the middle of your workpiece, you would then switch to 'incremental' display, designate the present position as a zero point, and then simply move your workpiece until .78 was displayed. 

Center Find Function Automatically calculates the center of the workpiece after the edges are located.

199 Reference or Sub Datum Memory (SDM) Points Are you doing any sort of repetitive machining? Wouldn't it be great to be able to create exact copies of your original workpiece? Well now you can - either enter your points as you move to them on your workpiece or simply enter them in a list format - the choice is yours!

Power off Memory (Reference Datum Memory) This function allows the operator to store the work piece zero position in memory. If the machine is turned off at night or there is a power failure, the zero reference point can be recovered without having to re-establish the work piece zero point.   

Linear Hole Tool Positioning Provides a linear hole positioning function for drilling holes a fixed distance apart, at any angle.

Incline Tool Position - Allows the operator to accurately position the workpiece at an angle on the work table. Also allows an incline function for machining parts positioned on an inclined surface.

Bolt Hole Circle (aka as PCD or Pitch Circle Diameter) Using the Bolt Hole circle function, the operator can drill holes in a circle from a designated center point.

ARC Machining Allows the operator to make radius and arc cuts.

Built In Calculator - The display includes a built in calculator function which provides normal mathematical functions such as: add, subtract, multiply, division, sin, cosine, tangent, square root, etc.

Parameters Setup Enables you to swap or 'reverse' the direction a scale reads, also allows the operator to perform a memory check.

Linear Error Compensation - This function allows the operator to compensate for linear error.

Non Linear Error Compensation - This function allows the operator to compensate for non-linear error. Normally only available in readouts costing twice as much, Non-Linear Error Compensation dials in scale accuracy to the micron!

Shrinkage Calculation - For mold making, allows the operator to enter a shrink factor to compensate for material shrinkage during cooling.

Vibration Filtering - Filters the display toggles to obtain a more comfortable reading.

 

High Noise Immunity & (EMC) Design

A triple stage noise filter is used in the 3m for transducer signals input noise filtering which offer very wide frequency bandwidth (1 KHz-1000MHz) noise attenuation. Extreme care was taken in PCB and component layout to achieve the highest possible noise immunity and EMC performance.

 

Adaptable to Poor Electrical Sources

A low power consumption approach was used in the system design of the 3m. The 3m can handle a wide range of supply voltages (160v~260v/80v~130v). The 3m's linear power supply offers excellent noise immunity and proven highest reliability without serious heat generation. Use of a combined capacitor-varistor noise filter in the power supply system ensures the highest possible noise and surge immunity to poor electrical sources.

 

High Durability Switch Membrane

An Autotex series polyester film from UK'S Autotype Ltd. is used as the key membrane of the 3m. Autotex polyester film is known as the highest quality, highest specification membrane film available in the membrane switch manufacturing industry. Autotex film offers excellent switch life and chemical resistance to the most commonly used industry solvents. Switch life expectancy is rated at a minimum of 100,000 cycles.

 

Robust Casing, Chromium Plated Panel

The front plate of the 3M is 1.5mm thick electroplated steel. Further, it is chromium plated for easy cleaning. The back cover is a 3.5mm high strength ABS plastic injected case to provide a high quality robust casing.

 

Ultra Low Temperature Rise Transformer

Reducing heat generation is critical to longevity. An ultra low temperature rise high permeability iron core transformer is utilized, which significantly reduces core temperature rise to about 5 degrees celsius.

 

State of the Art Electronics Technology

A custom 3 axes counting ASIC designed with CMOS technology greatly reduces the number of component counts, which lowers the system power consumption and yields greater reliability.

 

Advanced Production Technology

An SMT assembly process is used in manufacturing the 3m. All components are soldered by computerized control soldering machines to achieve the highest quality soldering possible.

 

Totally Sealed Enclosure

The enclosure of the 3m is completely sealed to protect the electronic circuitry against the hazards of a typical shop environment, such as dust, evaporated coolant, fumes, etc. To avoid overheating of the PCB caused by the totally sealed enclosure, a metal front plate and panel is utilized to quickly dissipate generated heat.

 

Non Linear Error Compensation

In an application where a very high degree of accuracy is required, such as grinding machines, boring machines, etc. it is very costly and also very difficult to achieve the required micron grade accuracy. The 3m offers a very cost effective way to improve the display accuracy by utilizing non-linear error compensation. The non-linear error compensation function of the 3m is very similar to the non-linear error compensation that is commonly found in CNC machine controllers.
